Involves immersion with your team to offer practical insights and solutions that can be implemented. We know healthcare.
Change is occurring everywhere, but good change does not happen by chance. Gaining insights to new strategies and approaching the future with energy and vision is essential to help meet the challenges of healthcare today. Facilitating meaningful discussion, including at the board level, is essential for high-performing teams.
Disruptive forces must be met by new, daring solutions as healthcare shifts toward a more transparent, retail model. Sometimes outside sponsorship is required to turn the corner on a key initiative. Whether offering tangible advice or coaching for success, solutions must be customized based on accessible resources.
Scott leads a virtual network of seasoned professionals. He is an advisor and coach to hospitals, health systems and health-related companies. His career has spanned diverse strategy assignments with over 400 organizations in 40 states. In addition to beginning his consulting career with Booz Allen Hamilton, and starting his own firm early in his career, Scott held various key positions in major public and private companies with a focus on consulting and real estate. Scott has also served as an interim executive for hospitals and health systems.
Scott is a recognized thought leader, speaker, author and coach in healthcare strategy. A trusted advisor to executive teams, companies and boards, he has written extensively and established himself as one of the industry’s prominent voices in dealing with key trends and their implications. The focus of Scott’s strategy engagements has evolved over the years from aggregating regional hospital systems (more than $20 billion in hospital mergers and 35 health systems formed) to post-merger integration following these initial transactions. Scott was an early pioneer advocating for clinical service line planning and development, including physician and consumer engagement components. Recently, Scott’s focus has shifted toward creating systemness through mergers and shared clinical service lines, and by improving the patient experience through adoption of retail strategies and embedding them into community-based ambulatory care and affiliated physician practices.
A popular speaker at regional meetings and board retreats, Scott has been widely published. In 2016, he received the coveted Dean Conley Award for best article of the year for “Retail and Real Estate: The Changing Landscape of Care Delivery,” published in ACHE’s Frontiers of Health Services Management. In 2021, Scott published The Healthcare Consultant’s Handbook: Career Opportunities and Best Practices. This was followed by the recent publication of his second book in the Consultant Series-- Executive Turned Consultant: Transitioning from Experienced Executive to Trusted Advisor in Healthcare. Scott publishes a monthly newsletter on LinkedIn and served for several years as Chairman of the ACHE Healthcare Consultant's Forum Committee.
Scott graduated from Duke University with a major in neuroscience (with honors), where he was a walk-on basketball player. He also completed a master's degree at Pennsylvania State University and a doctoral degree at George Washington University in Health Policy and Administration. He is a life fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and former Chairman of the American Association of Healthcare Consultants. He also serves as a volunteer Executive Partner at the Mason School of Business at College of William & Mary.
